404 – Purchasing Manager - Manufacturing 

Based in South London

£25k - £40k per annum + Benefits – depending on experience

My client, a manufacturer based in South London with almost 20 years’ experience in the industry, and their management staff have over 100 years of expertise between them making them experts in their field. During 2020 they have had continued success & they remain focused on continued growth and in line with this, are looking for a purchasing manager to join them into 2021.

What is this role?

This role is to have overall responsibility for purchasing within the company. This includes supplier management, ownership of the purchasing function and purchase forecasting. This is a varied and challenging role, as it involves supply chain for a wide range of products and components from a wide supplier base in the UK and from the East.

The role will involve purchasing activities at all levels, from chasing suppliers through to strategic purchasing decisions, new supplier engagement, building product pricing and margins with the commercial team, and to manage annual cost savings in this department.

Responsibilities include:

·       Manage and optimize daily purchasing activities and processes

·       Managing supplier relations and negotiating contracts, prices, timelines, etc.

·       Regular reviews of existing products and suppliers to ensure that best prices are being obtained.

·       Establishing and maintaining the supplier database, purchase records and all related documentation.

·       Review of purchasing methods to ensure production efficiencies are explored. Implementation of procurement processes with new suppliers.

·       Ongoing review of alternative suppliers to understand opportunities for improvement, incorporating cost of raw components/materials, quality, transportation and supplier ethical focus, maintaining the brand expectations for premium quality.

·       Constantly review opportunities for development of sustainable purchasing

·       Maintain record of cost decisions, building understanding of the cost / value chain.

·       Ownership of sourcing and traceability of new products / materials for NPD team, negotiating pricing and engineering quality to obtain required price point and margin.

·       Support all departments internally by ensuring that all UK suppliers deliver optimised service at relevant costs, and their performance vs costs reviewed regularly to ensure best possible terms being obtained – i.e., other business suppliers (non-manufacturing) 

·       Ensuring that all procured items meet the required quality standards and specifications, and refunds / rebates are received in a timely manner

·       Working to improve purchasing systems and processes.

 

Who is the ideal candidate?

  • At least 3 – 5 years’ experience in purchasing, sourcing, supplier management and negotiation
  • Strong technical background as technical products are at the forefront of their business 
  • Strong analytical and reporting functions and confident presentation of data driven decisions.
  • Experience in setting up a new purchasing function & confidence in their ability to implement process
  • Commercially savvy with an ability to manage internal stakeholders’ questions about pricing, procurement & supplier management
  • The successful candidate will also need to understand the environment of working in an SME.
  • Experience in lighting or manufacturing and buying from the East (Desirable)
  • CIPS qualified (Desirable)
